Instructions for searching
Simple search can be done by entering a single word into the search field. Example: "internet".
If you want to search by using just part of a word, you may do so with the "*"-character. Enter the "*" (without quotes) at the end of the word. Example: "intern*". You can also use the the asterisk to cut the word from the beginning. Example: "*net".
After the search is displayed, additional information of every title is available by clicking the title. The item availability and reservation functions are available from the title information.
Boolean operators
Several search parameters can be joined with boolean operators AND/OR/NOT. Example "computerANDinternetANDguide".
Searching with multiple search fields
If the search form provides multiple search fields, they can all be used at the same time. Example: You can search with freetext search, author field and lets say subject field all in one search. Multiple fields can also contain boolean operators.
Several different search fields are always treated with AND boolean operator. Example: if both the freetext and title search fields are used, the parameters on both must be found from the title information for it to be found.
Default search form contains so called multichoice search line where you select the desired search field with a menulist. Select first the search field you wish to use and then write the search parameter on the field next to it.
Additinal search limits
Search form may contain other restricting "search fields" such as department, title type or publishing year. These are all freely usable with any other search field. By default these fields contain selections that include "all titles".
If you limit the search by department or by title type, all the selections (for example clicking title from the search result) will carry these selections and will limit the search to the search parameters given in the search form. Note this usually does not apply to links available at the top of the search page such as "authors", "subjects" and so on.
Other links
The search form contains static links at the top of the page, such as "subjects", "authors", "Customer information". These links do not carry the limitations given in the search form. For example searching with a specific title type and then clicking the "subjects" link, will not restrict the subjects to the selected title type.
Customer information
Clicking the customer information link will usually cause the search system to display a "library card" and "pin-number" request. This identifying information should have been given to you by your library/information service. If the cardnumber/name and pin-code are correct you will see your own loan and reservation status with some additional functions. Usually you are able to renew loans and delete reservations in the customer information page.
When you have finished viewing/changing your information, please select the "Close session" button to select the identified session. This will prevent others seeing your information. It is not sufficient just to click on to another page to close the session.
Note about reservations: If you library gathers a fee from reserving an item, removing the reservation from the customer information view will not remove that fee.
Note about renewing loans: If your loan is overdue, the renewal will count the accumulated overdue fee and add it to your customer information.
